A mesh of discreet radio antennas are linked to a hotspot server which allows you to assign user accounts, monitor and control bandwidth, take automatic payments and view traffic logs.

How Public Access Wi-Fi Works.
Outdoor access points or on larger sites a mesh of antennas are installed and linked to a hot-spot server. The server is connected between the antennas and your Internet router. When a customer connects to the Wi-Fi and attempts to access a web page the server intercepts the request and re-directs them to a login page. If an account has been issued the customer can simply login or alternatively if you require pay as you go access the customer is re-directed to a payment gateway such as Paypal where secure payment is taken. In either case connecting is quick and simple and the user will be able to get online hassle free.
Typical public access Wi-Fi layout
In the diagram two Wi-Fi zones are created allowing free Wi-Fi access in the vicinity of the server and paid access through the remote antennas. The existing office computer network remains unaffected as it resides beyond the hotspot server. Bandwidth for the public can be limited ensuring access always remains constant for the private network clients.
Is it safe to allow public access to your Internet connection?
Allowing the public access to your personal Internet connection is a great way of improving the facilities on offer at your establishment. Often however business owners mistakenly allow the public access to their existing Internet connection without additional security. Current regulations make business owners responsible for managing the content accessed through their Internet connection. Without proper management and traffic logging it is impossible to regulate and monitor public users traffic. This could potentially lead to abuses caused by a connected user becoming your responsibility.
A hot-spot server is a safe and secure way to allow your customers to access the Internet. This is achieved by assigning a customer a personal account giving you a record of who is connected to your system and at what times. It also creates a separate network completely isolated from your own so connected public users cannot access anything on your private network. Accounts can quickly be created and deleted through a web interface from anywhere giving you complete control over your network at all times.
